Amy Duerkop
Pelvic Health & Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist
Amy was drawn to pelvic health when her physiotherapy degree covered women's health. She found herself captivated by how intricate the design and function of the female body is, and was particularly impacted by just how little of this vital information was reaching women. This sparked a passion for ongoing learning and led her to further training in pelvic health. Now she has the opportunity every day to help women gain a greater understanding of how their bodies work so they can begin to resolve bladder and bowel dysfunction and pelvic pain issues. Amy has experienced being both sides of the physio and patient dynamic, so she knows firsthand the impact this area of physiotherapy can make on your sense of self and quality of life.
Amy's desire is to partner with women preparing for birth so they feel equipped and empowered. Amy wants to see incidence of birth trauma reduce in Australia and loves that in her job she can play a small part in this ongoing mission on the larger scale by partnering with individual women to help them prepare for birth and be someone who is in their corner as they navigate self-care alongside motherhood in the postpartum period. Beyond birth, Amy loves to work alongside women returning to exercise postpartum and finding ways to move that both feel good and gel with the day-to-day reality of having little ones in the home.
Amy has a background in musculoskeletal and neurological physiotherapy and loves to use the skills from this experience in supporting women's health. She has a particular interest in working with people who are managing chronic pain, hypermobility, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, POTS and CFS. She has heard countless stories of lived experiences, with the common threads of long and emotional journeys to receiving a diagnosis and struggling to find the right supports. Amy considers it an absolute privilege to be able to listen to people's story and then together make a plan that truly meets them where they are at and moves forward from that starting point. This passion especially applies to working with clients that present with pelvic pain or sexual pain issues, which is one of her favourite presentations to work with and create a management plan to kick goals.
Outside of work, Amy loves to spend her time going for walks, hitting up a pilates or dance class, reading or having a cuppa with a friend.
