Amy Duerkop
Pelvic Health Physiotherapist
Pelvic Health Physiotherapist
Amy's journey into pelvic health began the moment her physiotherapy degree touched on women's health. She found herself captivated, by the intricacy of the female body, by how remarkable its design and function truly is, and by how little of that knowledge was actually reaching the women who needed it most. That gap became her purpose.
She has been filling it ever since.
Amy brings something to her work that not every physiotherapist can offer, she has experienced both sides of the patient and physio dynamic firsthand. She knows what it feels like to need support, and she knows the difference the right physiotherapist can make to your sense of self and quality of life. That lived experience shapes every appointment she delivers.
At Fitt Physiotherapy Amy works across the full spectrum of women's pelvic health, from bladder and bowel dysfunction to pelvic pain, sexual pain and birth preparation. She has a particular passion for partnering with women preparing for birth, supporting them to feel equipped and empowered for one of the most significant experiences of their lives. She is deeply committed to reducing the incidence of birth trauma in Australia, one woman at a time, and loves walking alongside patients through the postpartum period as they navigate returning to movement alongside the beautiful, demanding reality of new motherhood.
Amy also has a specialist interest in complex and chronic conditions that are frequently underdiagnosed and poorly supported, including hypermobility, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). She has heard countless stories of long, emotional journeys to diagnosis and the struggle to find the right support. For Amy, these patients are not a challenge, they are a privilege. She takes the time to truly listen, then builds a plan that starts exactly where each person is.
Her background in musculoskeletal and neurological physiotherapy gives her a broader clinical lens than most pelvic health physiotherapists, and it shows in how she approaches complex presentations, including pelvic pain and sexual pain, which are among her favourite clinical areas to work in.
Outside of work Amy loves walking, pilates, dance classes, reading and catching up with friends over a good cup of tea.
