Psychology

Your mind and body are not separate. Neither is our care.

At Fitt Physiotherapy we believe that truly effective women's health care addresses the whole person, not just the physical symptoms. That's why our clinical psychologist Sarah works as an integral part of our team, collaborating directly with our physiotherapists to provide care that is genuinely holistic.

Many of the conditions we treat, chronic pelvic pain, sexual pain, birth trauma, postnatal mental health, bladder and bowel dysfunction, have significant psychological components that, when left unaddressed, limit recovery and affect quality of life. Our integrated model means these components are never overlooked.

What does psychology at Fitt Physiotherapy look like?

Sarah sees patients both as part of a collaborative physiotherapy and psychology care plan, and independently, you do not need to be seeing one of our physiotherapists to book with Sarah.

You might benefit from seeing Sarah if you are experiencing:

Birth trauma — processing a difficult or unexpected birth experience

Perinatal anxiety or depression — during pregnancy or in the postpartum period

Chronic pain — where psychological factors are contributing to or maintaining your pain

Sexual pain or avoidance — where fear, anxiety or past experience is playing a role

Bladder or bowel anxiety — fear of leaking, urgency-related anxiety or avoidance behaviours

Body image and identity — adjusting to the changes that pregnancy, birth and motherhood bring

Relationship challenges — the impact of pelvic health conditions on intimacy and relationships

General mental health support — anxiety, depression, stress and life transitions

The integrated model

What makes Fitt Physiotherapy's psychology offering genuinely different is the integration.

Sarah and our physiotherapy team communicate regularly, share observations and collaborate on treatment planning, with your consent. This means:

✦ A psychological factor identified during a physio appointment is addressed, not referred off and forgotten

✦ A physical factor identified during a psychology session can be promptly investigated by the physio team

✦ Your care is coordinated, not fragmented

✦ You don't have to repeat your story to multiple providers who don't talk to each other

This is the model of care that complex women's health conditions deserve and that our patients consistently tell us makes a real difference to their outcomes.
